The gaming industry in China has experienced rapid growth in the past few years. In 2012, estimated total revenues were $9.7 Billion – a 35% increase from 2011 and more than 1/3 of the global total gaming revenue, according to The NPD Group.
There are a few characteristics that distinguish the Chinese gaming market from others, including:
- The number of consumers, as well as their spending, have both grown at a rapid rate
- Most gaming is done via online games
The surge in popularity of the gaming industry in China has created ample opportunity for Chinese companies to enter the market and flourish. The China Game Developers Conference (CGDC) promotes the exchange of technical expertise and cooperation between the Chinese and international game development communities.
